Chiba's Train Network


Chiba Prefecture is situated to the east of Tokyo Metropolitan area, comprising a peninsula jutting out into the Pacific Ocean.
It has a well-developed railroad network.

In this route map, red lines indicate JR lines, operated by the Japan Railways Group.
The JR Group is the largest railway company in Japan.

JR Railway Lines in Greater Tokyo」(English)

Trains are categorized into four as follows.
特急Tokkyu : Limited Express
(the fastest and stops only at major stations)
急行Kyuko : Express
(the second fastest)
快速Kaisoku : Rapid service
(the third fastest)
普通(各駅停車・各停)Futsu : (Kakueki) Local
(stops at all stations)
Trains going to the "up" direction of the line towards the Tokyo Station are called
"上りNobori ", while trains going "down" direction away from the Tokyo Station are called
"下りKudari ".
These are displayed on timetables.
