How to Take a Bus

Intraprefectural bus routes are well developed, too.
As the fares are reasonable, it is very convenient for a short distance trip from the station.
It might be, however, a bit tricky to take, if you don't understand Japanese.
It will give you a sense of security if you confirm the fare and traveling time beforehand.
Major train stations, like Chiba Station, often have a bus information desk「バス案内所」.
<Note>
(1) Take a numbered ticket(整理券、せいりけん), if provided, upon boarding.
(2) The next stop will be indicated on the front screen, and you will also hear announcement.
But the display is only in Japanese in most cases, and the announcement will be made only once.
Push a buzzer to notify the driver when you want to get off at the next stop.
(3) You are usually supposed to pay your fare when you get off.(※)
Find your fare on the front screen that corresponds to the number printed on your ticket. Drop coins in the farebox.
Prepare enough coins, since you can't always break 5000 and 10000 yen bills on board.

※Some buses require you to pay the fare upon boarding. The driver will let you know.
